Osteopathy

Autumn gardening and your shoulders

Leaf piles, wet soil and a rotator cuff that remembers last year — Steve Hall on seasonal strain in Hartley Wintney.

An English garden and the strain of outdoor work

Symptoms and what they can mean

An ache after raking that becomes a night pain. Difficulty reaching a coat. The pride of a tidy garden and a shoulder that files a complaint on Monday.

What we can do in clinic

We look at the neck, the thoracic spine and the cuff as a team. Deborah may take the loading if the tendon is the story. I will suggest smaller piles and a higher wheelbarrow like a killjoy, because it works.

Red flags and when to see your GP

A shoulder that will not lift after a fall, or swelling and fever — medical imaging or GP, not another weekend of leaves.
