Counselling

Counselling in midlife

The years when the roles pile up — Katie Green on therapy for adults who are holding too much.

What this can look like

Ageing parents, teenagers, a job that ate the person you were. A body that has opinions. A marriage that is logistics. The question “is this it” arriving at 2am.

How counselling can help

Midlife is not a punchline. We can look at identity, loss, desire and the permission to want a different shape of life. Menopause symptoms may also be in the medical picture — Kyla and your GP sit there; I sit with what it means.

When it is more than counselling

New depression with physical red flags, or thoughts of not wanting to continue — GP and crisis routes as needed.

Always check with your GP or insurer if you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
