Aftercare

Osteopathy after a caesarean

Scar, posture, picking up a car seat — Steve Hall on postnatal osteopathy when birth was surgical.

Symptoms and what they can mean

A pulling scar, a rounded upper back from feeding, a pelvis that does not feel like yours. Exhaustion that makes every lift a gamble. This is aftercare, not a vanity project.

What we can do in clinic

Once your obstetric team is happy with the wound, we work with the abdomen, ribs and neck as they actually are — not as a textbook vaginal birth. Deborah can load what needs strength. I will not “release the scar” as a slogan on a six-week-old incision.

Red flags and when to see your GP

A hot, opening or discharging wound, heavy bleeding, chest pain or a calf that swells — maternity team, GP or 999. Osteopathy waits.

This article is general information for people considering care at Health at Hart in Hartley Wintney. It is not a diagnosis, a prescription, or a promise of outcome. If you have sudden, severe or unexplained symptoms — including chest pain, unexplained weight loss, night pain, bowel or bladder changes, or a new neurological problem — seek urgent medical advice (NHS 111 or 999). UK osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council. Counsellors named here are BACP-registered where stated. Always check with your GP or insurer if you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
