Elevation, movement and when swelling is a warning — physiotherapy aftercare that is not just a bag of peas.

Puffiness that tracks into a shoe. Some swelling is the injury doing its job. Swelling that rises with fever or breathlessness is not.
We use movement as a pump, compression if appropriate, and we do not imprison a joint for a month. Ice is optional comfort.
Calf swelling with chest pain — 999. A joint that is hot and you feel unwell — same-day GP or A&E.
