Swelling management after knee surgery

Symptoms and what they can mean

By 6pm the knee is a different shape. That can be normal. A calf that is hard, or a fever, is not a “bit of swelling”.

What we can do in clinic

We get the quadriceps working, we move as allowed, we elevate without turning you into a Victorian invalid.

Red flags and when to see your GP

DVT warnings, wound issues, or a knee that becomes suddenly more painful — surgical team or 111/999 as directed.
