Parents in the waiting room

When your child is in the room and you are holding the car park — Gia Bird on parent work that is not gossip.

What this can look like

Fear you have caused it. Fear you have missed it. A marriage under the strain of a struggling child. Advice from every relative and none of it usable at 7am.

How counselling can help

I work with parents as well as young people. Parent sessions are not a report on what the child said. They are a place for your fear, your limits and how to be the adult in a storm. Confidentiality still has safeguarding limits I will explain.

When it is more than counselling

If you are not coping, your own GP matters. If a child is at risk, safeguarding is not optional.

Always check with your GP or insurer if you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
